Snake gourds are typically very long and slender (hence their name) though some varieties are shorter. The long varieties can grow up to 6 ft long! They've also got a special relationship to cucumbers: they're in the same family (Cucurbitaceae) and planting snake gourd near cucumber plants helps protect them from cucumber beetles. They also taste similar to a cucumber and are often used in Southeast Asia for making pickles, chutneys and curries.
TIP: Simply peel your snake gourd, chop it up and cook it much like you would zucchini.
